How to get found when buyers ask AI instead of Google

AI assistants now answer many research questions directly. What changes for B2B search, content and measurement, and what to do first.

Buyers still search. More of them now ask an AI assistant first: which CRM suits a 40-person logistics company, how to lower cost per lead on LinkedIn, what a good onboarding sequence looks like. The answer arrives as a summary, sometimes with a few cited sources, often with no click at all.

That does not make SEO obsolete. It changes what visibility means and how you earn it.

What AI search rewards

AI search tools build answers from sources they consider clear, specific and trustworthy. In practice that favours pages that:

  • Answer one question directly in the first few sentences
  • Use the same names for your company, services and products everywhere
  • Carry structured data that explains what the page is about
  • Show real expertise through named methods, worked examples and clear opinions
  • Are referenced by other credible sites

Most of this is technical and on-page SEO and content SEO done properly. The difference is emphasis. Vague category pages and thin posts were already weak. In AI answers they vanish.

Four changes worth making this quarter

1. Rebuild key service pages around questions

Each service page should state plainly what the service is, who it is for, what is included and how results are measured. That structure is easy for people to scan and easy for machines to quote.

2. Publish opinions, not summaries

AI tools already summarize the obvious. What they cannot generate is your point of view, your process and your experience. thought leadership that takes a clear position is more likely to be cited than another list of tips.

3. Tighten your entity signals

Make sure your company name, description, location and services match across your website, business profiles, directories and social accounts. Add Organization, Service and FAQ schema. Inconsistency makes you harder to trust and harder to cite.

4. Measure beyond the click

Track branded search volume, direct traffic and self-reported attribution on forms ('How did you hear about us?'). When an AI answer mentions you, the visit often arrives later and by another route. attribution needs to reflect that.

What not to do

Do not flood the site with AI-generated articles. Volume without substance weakens the signals that matter, and it makes your brand sound like everyone else. A smaller library of genuinely useful pages outperforms a large library of generic ones.

Where to start

Pick your ten most commercially important questions, the ones a buyer asks right before they shortlist suppliers. Check whether your site answers each one better than anyone else. Where it does not, fix that first. Our SEO and AI Search Readiness Checklist walks through the full audit.
